The programme includes nursing science (112.5 hec), medical science (52.5 hec) and public health science (15 hec). Half of the study programme is carried out in various different activities (for example medical, surgical and psychiatric care, child health care, maternal health care, home health care and senior health care) in the municipalities and county councils areas of responsibility). There is a close connection in the education between theoretical and work based studies. Preclinical courses aim at preparing the students for the work based education. The connection of the education to research facilitates a systematic attitude. The academic level is reached after completing 180 hec, of which at least 90 hec consist of a successive deepening of the main area of nursing science, in which an independent assignment (degree project) is included. The forms of teaching and examination are aimed at developing the students capacity for evaluation of knowledge, problem solution, reflection and in-depth understanding. The educational approach is based on the students being given freedom and independence in discerning and formulating problems and actively seeking and evaluating knowledge. This approach is based on a belief in the students ability to take responsibility for their education and their personal development.Items spanning across the courses are supervision in nursing, ethical reflection and information competence. These items are integrated into all the courses. A gender, trans cultural and international perspective is taken into consideration throughout the programme. It is possible to study the whole or a part of a course at some other university in or outside the EU.For each course there is a syllabus stating what learning results the students are expected to achieve, the contents of the course, the required reading and what special entrance qualifications are required for admission to the course. Courses building on each other are given in sequence. A single-subject course or parts of a course may be given in English. The courses of the Nursing Programme and the distribution of credits among nursing science (nus), medical science (med) and public health science (phs) are described below:Year 1 (60 hcs)Introduction to nursing, 7.5 hec (nus)Basic medical course, 15 hec (med) Preclinical course I, 7.5 hec (3.75 nus and 3.75 med)The theory and method of nursing science I focusing on the patient, 7.5 hec (nus)Nursing focusing on the meeting between patient and nurse, 7.5 hec (nus)Work-based education I, 15 hec (7.5 nus and 7.5 hsmed)Year 2 (60 hcs)Nursing focusing on the nurses profession, 7.5 hec (nus)The theory and method of nursing science II focusing on the environment, 7.5 hec (nus) Public health, 7.5 hec (phs) Preclinical course II, 7.5 hec (nus)Work-based education II, 15 hec (7.5 nus and 7.5 med) Work-based education III, 15 hec (7.5 nus and 7.5 phs)Year 3 (60 hcs)The theory and method of nursing science III, 7.5 hec (nus)The theory and method of nursing science IV, in-depth study of nursing, 15 hec (nus)Preclinical course III, 7.5 hec (3.75 nus and 3.75 med)Work-based education IV, 30 hec (15 nus and 15 med)trueSjuksköterskeexamenKandidatexamen180.0Grundläggande behörighet + Matematik 2a eller 2b eller 2c, Naturkunskap 2, Samhällskunskap 1b eller 1a1+1a2 samt kurser motsvarande programmets tidigare terminer.General requirements for university studies in Sweden.
